More on Trump and Illegal Immigration
These two articles, as well as those contained in chapter 1, reiterate the point that illegal immigration hurts American lower-skilled and unskilled workers who are major losers in the competition for low-skilled jobs. Yet black and white progressives just donât seem to care. Illegal immigrants are their new favored protected class. As President Trump stated in an Oval Office address in January, as referenced above, âuncontrolled, illegal immigrationâ¦drives down jobs and wages (and that) among that hardest hit are African-Americans and Hispanic Americans.â
At a time when the presidentâs economic and related policies have brought the unemployment rate for blacks to historic lows, as was noted in chapter 11, left-wing Democrats and their presidential candidate colleagues want to open to even more illegal immigrants who will compete with blacksâand all Americansâfor low-skilled and blue collar jobs. For those who wonât compete in the job market, they will provide competition with legal Americans for tax dollars for public services. Not only do they want to have open borders, these âopen the floodgatesâ apologists for illegal immigration want to protect criminal illegal aliens in sanctuary cities. Never mind having any empathy or sympathy for the victims of their crimes.
While Obamaâs immigration policies moved illegal immigrants to the front of his immigration bus, and Democratsâ failure to act to enact legislation to correct the crises, President Trump has moved to stem the tide of illegal immigration including building the âwallâ to make illegal entry, drug smuggling, and human trafficking more difficult.
As an October 2019 White House Fact Sheet points out, significant steps have been taken to stop the flow of illegal immigrants, including, but not limited to, the following:
In September, 52,546 aliens were apprehended or deemed inadmissible at the southern border, the lowest numbers for any month in fiscal year (FY) 2019, which marked a decline of more than 60 percent from the peak in May 2019.
